HALLOWEEN AT CITIZENS OF THE WORLD
Please join us our second annual Trunk or Treat! This is one way that we can celebrate the holiday as a community without disrupting the learning day, so we hope you can make it! This event is our alternative to classroom parties during the school day, so please send students to school in their uniforms and leave all costumes, candy, and treats at home so that we can have a full day of learning on Halloween!

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES COMING UP IN NOVEMBER
Student Led Conference Week will be November 12th through November 15th.
Middle school families can now sign up for Sixth Grade conferences, as well.
Citizens of the World approaches conferences differently from many schools. Rather than the teacher and parent talking about your child's progress, your child is at the center of the conversation, sharing about their own learning and growth so far this year. It's a great chance to hear directly from your child about their learning, and for you to offer your encouragement, concerns, praise, and questions. Student Led Conferences are a great opportunity to meet with your child and your child’s teacher and to hear directly from your child about their learning and growth!
Use the links below to sign up and make plans to attend a conference during the evenings on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday or during the day on Friday of that week. Remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Friday during Student Led Conference Week.

COMMUNICATION FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER
We are now heading toward more opportunities for winter weather, so we want to share some updates and clarifications to how Citizens of the World KC handles school closure for snow and inclement weather. Please read below and let us know if you have any questions!
When deciding to close school for inclement weather, Citizens will generally follow the lead of the Kansas City Public School District. However, our school reserves the right to make our own decision.
When KCPS announces their decision, Citizens will announce and communicate our own decision as well. We will post on our website and Facebook page, report to ABC-CBS-NBC, and send email/texts to our staff and parents. We will use the most updated contact list, so if your information has changed recently please ensure the school has the correct email/phone number(s) on file.
Generally speaking, we will wait for the decision from KCPS before making a decision for CWC.
If KCPS is closed and we will follow suit, we will communicate as soon as we are able.
If KCPS is closed and we will still stay open, we will communicate as soon as we are able.
If KCPS is on a delayed start schedule, we will communicate our open/close status as soon as we are able.
If KCPS is either open, or is very late (in our opinion) to announce a closure, we may still decide to close regardless, and we will communicate that decision as soon as it is made.

OTHER FUN STUFF DURING STUDENT LED CONFERENCE WEEK
Our annual Scholastic Book Fair will be open during Student Led Conferences! Bring your family to purchase books -- and support our classroom libraries with your purchase! Every book bought gives the school credit to buy more classroom books. If you are available to volunteer at the book fair for an hour or more, PLEASE SIGN UP HERE!
Also, our Family Council always finds opportunities for teacher appreciation during Student Led Conference week, and we are looking for parents who are willing to help provide some treats for our teachers during the week of conferences. Sign up HERE to bring snacks or breakfast goodies for teachers and staff.

WE NEED MORE SNACKS!
Did you know that approximately half of our students need a snack each day? That’s about 225 kids. That means we need 5 boxes of Cheez-its each day (for example) to make sure every kid who needs a snack gets one! You can drop snacks off at any time at the front desk or ship them straight to the school. Thanks for helping stock the snack shelves through your generosity!

In winter conditions, children should always have appropriate outerwear, such as a winter coat, hat and gloves.
