APPLICATION & ENROLLMENT FAQ
1. Do I have to live in a specific neighborhood to attend CWC Kansas City? All children who reside within the Kansas City Public School District (KCPS) boundaries are eligible to enroll in Citizens of the World KC. In the event Citizens receives more applications than there are available seats, a geographic preference will apply. To see a map of the preference area, please click here. 2. When is my paperwork due? For the 2021-2022 school year, all enrollment and registration paperwork must be completed and submitted within three weeks of accepting a seat, and absolutely prior to the child’s first day of school. For grade levels that do not have a waitlist, remaining seats will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, so do not delay in submitting an enrollment request. 3. How old does my child have to be to enroll in Kindergarten? A student must be five years old before September 1 in order to enroll in Kindergarten of that year. If your child has a September birthday, please contact our office. 4. When can I enroll my child in the 2021-2022 school year? Right now! Our application process for the 2021-2022 school year will open in November 2020. Each incoming student must complete a Request for Enrollment. 5. What about siblings? If you would like to enroll multiple students who are siblings (but none of them are currently enrolled CWC students), each incoming student must complete a Request for Enrollment. The online process will automate much of the duplicate information. Each student will have their own lottery weight and the same chance to be awarded a seat. If the lottery awards one of them a seat, all associated siblings will automatically also be offered seats. If you already have at least one currently enrolled student and would like to enroll additional children for the following year, each additional incoming child will need to complete a separate Request for Enrollment and go through the lottery process to be offered a seat. 6. When my child transitions from the Elementary School to the Middle School, will they need to go through the lottery process again? No. As long as you complete each year’s re-enrollment paperwork by the deadline (February of the preceding year), your student’s seat will be guaranteed throughout their enrollment at Citizens of the World Kansas City - regardless of if their grade level promotion is simply grade-to-grade or also includes building-to-building. However, if you decline an offer of admission, withdraw your student, and/or decline to re-enroll and later change your mind, you will need to re-submit a Request for Enrollment and go through the lottery process again with no weight given for prior enrollment. 7. I am currently on the waitlist and I see my priority number changing. Why am I moving down instead of up? Please read this explanation of our enrollment priorities on how we assign waitlist numbers and move through offers. 8. What is the overall timeline for enrollment?
